Some opponents of Zionism invoke the pioneers of Zionism’s European heritage to paint the entire movement as irredeemably “colonialist.” But in reality, Zionism is the movement for the Jewish people’s self-determination in their ancestral homeland. The Jewish people have maintained a connection to the land of Israel for thousands of years, and those who would paint Jews as outsiders and invaders in what is now the state of Israel are attacking a central tenet of Jewish identity.
